Mamatography January 2014

www.amywilla.com: January 2014

This New Year has been rainy, cold, and foggy (with a little snow and LOTS of ice) for our new home in Kodiak, AK. We have done some playing outside in the elements, but mostly, we find ways to have fun inside. Playing ball inside and learning how to use the computer have been frequent activities (gentle, Joe!)

www.amywilla.com: Mamatography January 2014
We also all got sick after the New Year. It was an awful stomach bug, but thankfully we are all well now. Abbey and Joe have been having fun playing together, building and playing pretend. And when Abbey is at preschool, Joe likes to relax in her new “princess bed” and hang out with mommy (this last photo is from a mommy-Joe date at the base pizza parlor). He is growing SO FAST. He will be 3 in April. Where does the time go!? www.amywilla.com: Mamatography January 2014

I have also made my first steps into preserving food. Pictured is pressure canned vegetables and chicken broth, hopefully to help make chicken gnocchi soup more easily. We’ll see!

Mamatography Week 44

We have finally started settling into a good, healthy rhythm here in our new home at Coast Guard Base Kodiak in Kodiak, AK. Just in time for winter to blow in!

Abbey Ballet 2013

Abbey has been enjoying preschool Monday through Thursday and dance class on Friday afternoons!

Joe Oct 2013

Joe has been busy doing lots of toddler stuff. . .

throwing birthday parties for Thomas the Train and taking pictures of his toes, to name a couple.

IMG_3736

We have also been busy with crafts. . .

I’m pretty sure I caught Joe red (rem, green) handed in this pic!

IMG_4226

Abbey LOVES the perler beads craft set Grandma sent her on her birthday!

Daddy and I have also been enjoying crafting with her.

IMG_0233

I have been getting crafty myself. . .

now that my college semester is over, I can focus again on my Silly Bear Handmade shop.

Pumpkin Carving 2013

Halloween found us carving pumpkins

IMG_4580

And trick or treating! Abbey was a Pumpkin Fairy

IMG_4578

Joe was Leo from the Little Einsteins.

Though lots of people guessed Harry Potter.

Mya October 2013

The week wouldn’t be complete without capturing some canine portraits. . .

POttery Painting Datesy

And I had to photograph the masterpieces that Hubs and I painted on our date-afternoon to the coffee house and painting’ place.

I cannot WAIT to see them after they are fired, all bright and glossy and beautiful! It was so fun to leave the kids with a sitter and go do something relaxing and creative with my love.

Joe's Apron and Chicken

I also made Joe his own apron for helping in the kitchen this week.

I’m not sure how much he likes it. . .

. . . but he sure likes homemade chicken fingers and mac and cheese! Who doesn’t?!

That was our week – how was YOURS?!

IMG_3756

That was our August. How was YOURS?

Mamatography October 2013

I cannot believe that October is coming to an end. What happened to Fall? It sped right by me!

IMG_6956

I think my little man has an idea where it went. . .

IMG_6998

Nope, mama. It’s not up there. . .

IMG_7027

It’s not in the water, but we’re getting close. . .

IMG_7072

Oh THERE’s the culprit that made fall fly by so fast! Our new home!

IMG_7064

Kodiak, Alaska!

I mean, really.  I feel like yesterday we were on the ferry and now we’re finally settled into our new home and making the adjustments needed to get acclimated to living 1) in Alaska and 2) on a semi-isolated island (and by semi-isolated, I mean it’s relatively easy to hop a plane to Anchorage if you have the time and money to do so).

IMG_6929

Meanwhile, while we haven’t had the opportunity to jet set off to the Mainland yet. . . We’ve been hiking and exploring with new friends,

IMG_6883

Growing bigger and bigger each day. . .

IMG_6885

And loving each other wholeheartedly

IMG_6950

Oh and we can’t forget to mention the wild blueberries we picked this fall. YUMMY!

IMG_7069

It looks like Kodiak is a pretty cool place.

IMG_6875

We’re just going to keep rolling with the punches and continue growing with each new opportunity.

That was our month. How has yours been?!

Mamatography August 2013

Yep, it’s that time again: When Amy gets so busy that her Mamatography posts go from weekly to monthly.

That happen to any of you other mamas out there? I hope it’s not just me!

Since we finished our BIG PCS from Maine to Kodiak Island Alaska, I have been busy busy busy setting up our home, caring for our kids, meeting new friends, getting used to the island, training a new dog, starting my new semester of Public Health classes, and mapping out my classes left until graduation and cheering with joy that I’ll have a BS in Public Health in 2015! Yippee!

I have also been seeking out and enrolling Abbey in a preschool, enrolling myself in an online lactation conference (to continue my lactation-specific education for the IBCLC requirements), figuring out what toddler experiences there are available for Joe here on the island. . . and consequently remembering that Joe will be 3 this coming Spring. O – M – G. How is that happening.

What else. . .

I’ve also been planning Abbey’s birthday party, trying to wring out of the Silly Bears what they would like to be for Halloween (so that I can order in the required materials and get to planning and sewing) . . . oh, and I’m trying to set up a La Leche League meeting for the area AND re-establish my Silly Bear Handmade shop after the move.

And Hubs has been gone to school in VA for 3 weeks.

*Deep Breath*

But I have been taking pictures!

IMG_3460

I have now finished this knitting project – - – a cotton hoodie from Toddler Hoodie pattern on Etsy for a special family member who turns one in a few weeks!

IMG_3463

And this lovely project is now hanging in my kitchen window – - – used up some scraps on this one (that seems to be a theme with my sewing lately. . . you’ll see later)

IMG_3506

Aha! More scrap busting going on in this photo – - – see if you can spot what this eventually became in one of the other August photos as you scroll down!

IMG_3559

Abbey, who is turning 5 in September, has celebrated quite a few milestones recently: She weaned from the breast at the end of her full-term breastfeeding experience, she moved all the way across the country with us, and she started swimming lessons! I love this girl. So Much.

IMG_3564

Joseph wasn’t such a fan of Abbey getting to swim and him not being able to (gotta be four to take swim classes, buddy! His response: “I AM four!” LOL).

But his new love interest, one of my new Coastie Wife friends, pepped him up with a surprise visit during Abbey’s swim class one day. He was very pleased.

IMG_3568

Our handsome man modeling the fleece-crotched training pants I made him. Like Abbey, he is now having less interest in using the potty, but I’m hoping with gentle reminders, we’ll be out of diapers and potty learned around 3, like she was.
IMG_3579

They’re super cute though – the trainers. I’m loving them. His little knees and cinnamon roll belly button are to die for too, though.

IMG_3581

We’ve been doing lots of baking on rainy days. . . It’s easier to bake in our new kitchen. It’s about the same size as our kitchen in Maine, but not galley-shaped, and not a walk through area (unless you’re coming in the back door) . . . I like the space and Abbey likes being in it with me!

IMG_3588

Blueberry Biscuits. Yummy.

IMG_3590

Super easy (and sooooo delicious french bread)

IMG_3592

And on a sunny day, we have lots of park time and coloring with sidewalk chalk!

IMG_3598

Oh, and hiking.

IMG_3621

IMG_3619

And salmonberry picking.

IMG_3618

Thankfully for my husband’s psyche, Abbey hasn’t dressed up Joseph as a girl in quite a few weeks. Glad I snapped this jewel when I did then!

IMG_3631

We love dress up, but we love coloring more.

IMG_3667

And we love our new puppy, Mya.

IMG_3668

Raven stayed behind at Nana and Papas house because we weren’t positive that we wouldn’t harm her physically or emotionally by driving her (or shipping her) all the way to Kodiak. She is enjoying being spoiled rotten by her “grand-people” and though we miss her, we know she is happy and healthy and that is all that matters!

Abbey constantly tells Mya stories about “our other dog Raven”

IMG_3722

I couldn’t help but post this picture of Joseph in a classic toddler moment. The “I refused to take a nap, so then we went on a hike to pass the time, and I fell asleep on the sofa when we got back.” One of many classic toddler moments. IMG_3671

Another knitting project. I can’t ever just do one thing at a time – - – can I?

IMG_3673

Mya again.

IMG_3675

Abbey being a puppy with Mya under my desk in my sewing room/office. Love my work buddies.

Have you seen the completed project yet? If you don’t know what I’m talking about, scroll back up the top. . .

IMG_3677

My human work buddy brought me her rainbow bear to sit in my sofa pin cushion. So sweet.

IMG_3683

Ah, there she is! My work buddy and my little mermaid!

IMG_3692

Joe lined up all the ducks he could steal from the lifeguard’s basket and set them all up looking out the window.

I wonder what he was wishing about while Abbey was having her lesson? LOL

IMG_3693

IMG_3695

Oh yeah. . . park time!!!!!!!!!

IMG_3716

And my post wouldn’t be complete without a picture of wild-caught fresh alaskan salmon. One of the perks of being up here on this isolated Alaskan island! Yum!

IMG_3756

That was our August. How was YOURS?

That was our week, moving through the United States on our way to Alaska! How was yours?

Mamatography – May 2013

This past month (ok, maybe a month and a half?) I have been so busy with preparations for our family’s huge military PCS to Kodiak, Alaska that I have neglected my Mamatography posts.

Ok, I was neglecting posting altogether.

But I was in fact still taking pictures during that time, so I thought I’d catch up with a Mamatography for the month of May. It’s been a fun-filled, joyful, yet very busy month!!!!!

375986_10102411697610551_420570197_n 374604_10102411697410951_1090172272_n

The month of May started out by bringing us some actual spring-like weather. We celebrated by grilling and playing as a family at the park!

417795_10102426830933251_1987281378_n

I posted a photo of the Coast Guard Family sign that I made for our (now three) duty stations as a family, and then a couple of friends wanted to place orders with me for their own custom signs. It was fun making them, and my friends loved them!

164900_10102439257570171_75456845_n

Some more seasonal weather (this day was around 60′) allowed us to do snack time and lunch time outside.

The kids all LOVE picnics!

The Silly Bears also LOVE playing on the rock down the street from our house.

408424_10102439236337721_533684489_n

Abbey couldn’t stand straight and forward for her passport photo (we need them to travel through Canada on our way to our new home in Kodiak AK) for anything! She kept doing “cutie” poses like this one. “May I do a cutie pose? You can still see my nice smile, right?” The website also said that our photos needed to have “neutral faces” . . . let’s just say it was a joyful moment when I finally got a neutral, not blurry one. Now, I hope the State Dept. likes it!

Mother’s Day Weekend was Awesome. We had a nice brunch at IHOP, where I enjoyed kissies from Joe

400593_10102460207281781_2040246434_n

And smiles and love from daddy and Abs

935356_10102453173282971_1138822753_n-1

And then a lovely surprise – a cookie cake, flowers and my favorite wine!

Oh, be still my heart!

Abbey and Joe are both getting SO BIG. Abbey is enjoying a dance class (and choosing to walk home from the rec center some days!) and Joseph is in big boy wrangler jeans, and having so much fun growing and changing!

485464_10102436978048351_668762930_n 941994_10102421655095671_1453635539_n

I also did a couple furniture trash-to-treasure rescues, painting a dresser for Joseph’s room, and helping my friend paint an old dresser for her house.

970786_10102460207147051_401101131_n 945848_10102460207231881_153444831_n

We’ve been getting ready for our move out of our house here in Maine and preparing to move to Alaska!

960214_10102488107225071_1868924507_n

And now. . . our whole house is in boxes and we are awaiting the moving truck. . .

That was our May. How was YOURS?

Mamatography Week 17

IMG_0091

Just eating my snack in mommy and daddy’s bed. You caught me.

IMG_2215

Taking pictures of my baby carriers that I’m no longer using. For sale. . . *sniff*

IMG_2217

. . . I remember lovingly and carefully crafting this carrier while I was still pregnant with Joe.

IMG_2232

Impromptu Family Photo at the park!

IMG_2233

. . . and the Silly Pic

IMG_2277

The Silly Bears, ready to help, heading to the Home Depot to exchange some drawer pulls. Joe is really into flashlights lately.

IMG_2280

Joe’s finished “trash to treasure” sports themed dresser! I painted the dresser and hand painted the new knobs to be sports balls. I say “It’s not perfect” but Joe says “I like it mommy!”

Mamatography Week 16 – Still chilly, but havin’ fun

IMG_0088

This week, we celebrated Joseph’s 2nd Birthday with a Thomas the Train themed party.

He was so excited! “My party! My Thomas party!”

IMG_2201

Joseph, Abbey and their friends had a great time coloring, playing, and snacking.

IMG_2194

We had a small ice cream cake with a Thomas candle for birthday wishes, and my friend Erica made adorable “balloon” cake pops for Thomas to pull down the tracks to Joe’s party.

IMG_2200

Joseph was so sweet to all of his guests, especially the youngest, our little neighbor, Noah. I was so proud of his lovely manners.

IMG_5755

Later in the week we had friends over for a cookout and the kids got pretty messy in the slightly wet sandbox and newly cleaned up back yard.

IMG_5765

“Hey, mom!”

IMG_5766

“Oh, yeah, I guess I DO have dirty hands.” LOL

IMG_5797

Even though it is still pretty chilly here (Spring, where ARE you?!), we still make sure to get outside to play. It was about 43′ the day I snapped this portrait of Abbey. . . she had just finished having a giant fit about the fact that it was cold, and that she had to wear a helmet while she rode her bike.

IMG_5803

Joseph, cruising around the same day on his Rock, Roll, and Ride trike – with a lollipop (“loll- pop”)

IMG_5817

I got a couple cute snapshots of the kids at the park this week, too.

IMG_5827

Cheeeeeeeeeeese!

IMG_5838And I had to include this “still life” of Joe’s little Wrangler jeans. He is growing up SO fast!

That was OUR Week. How was YOURS?

Mamatography Week 15

Puddles

We started our week with fierce puddle splashing. Joe loves him some puddles!!!!

Camaro Ride

Tuesday afternoon, we had the inaugural ride of the power wheels Camaro. Abbey and Joe love cruising around the park together.

Cake

We love our mid-week bible study program at our friend’s church. Here is Joe with her daughter, London.

At one point, the two of them were feeding each other cake. It was adorable.

Next week, I promise, I’ll get a shot of the two of them hugging. It will melt your heart!

IMG_2125

Abbey and Joe built a “roller coaster” together on Thursday with some building toys that we’ve collected from Wendy’s kids meals. I love how well they are interacting and playing with one another lately. We are not without a little rivalry and disagreement, but it’s mostly sibling love around here lately. So cute!

Bruise

Unfortunately, on Friday afternoon, Jed, Joe, and I were in a one-car accident in the random sleet that hit our area. It was raining, and we had decided to drive to meet someone for a Craigslist trade. Rain turned to sleet really fast, and we hydroplaned on the ice. I was driving very slowly and carefully, but I couldn’t save us from crashing. The road went out from under us and there we were, crashing into a tree in the ditch. This is a picture of one of my bruises. It was awful and scary, but Joe and Jed and I are all OK, Thank GOD. My car however. . . is not.

I just praise God that everyone is safe, and thank God for the great family of friends we have here in our neighborhood that helped us out on Friday and kept my spirits up over the weekend. I was really SORE and sad about the crash.

Abbey Dance Class

Abbey had her second dance class this weekend. She loves it!

Joe and Goat WM

After dance class, we went to Abbey’s preschool program – Passport through America. It was a big party/festival type thing, in the gym at the Shipyard. There were booths with food, fun, and activities to represent all the regions of the US. Coincidentally (since we are moving to Alaska soon), Abbey’s class worked on the Alaska/Hawaii booth!

Abbey and Goat WM

Abbey and Joe’s favorite part of the festival was definitely the petting zoo, though. They loved feeding the goats with us.

That was OUR Week. How was YOURS?

Mamatography Week 13 – Month of the Military Child (and projects galore!)

My week started out with a determination to start AND finish a chair re-uppholstery/refinishing project for our four dining room chairs. As you can see, I bought these really nice (but used and scratched/nicked) chairs. I paid $40 for all of them, and set out to make them my own!

IMG_2016Joseph was eager to help! Very hands on, this child!

IMG_2012

Watch out, screws! Joe is going to get you!!!!! LOL

IMG_2011

We had a couple days of sibling rivalry over the new Tag Reader books. You know you have a preschooler and a toddler when:

you are constantly taping the pages of tag reader books back together.

IMG_2050

But they sure do LOVE one another. They love to dance together – Abbey says “Joseph would you like to be the Prince, and we’ll dance!” So cute.

IMG_2021

This week I also made my own kolaches. So delicious!

IMG_2055

IMG_2059

Some more dancing cuteness from the Silly Bears. . .

IMG_2031

And whoo hoo! The finished chair re-appholstery/refinishing project!

Finished ChairI love the way they came out. What do you think?

IMG_2080

On Friday morning, Abbey’s class had a parade on the Shipyard to celebrate the Month of the Military Child. We picked up daddy for a special break from work to watch Abbey march in her parade.

IMG_2084What are our favorite colors, Rainbow Friends?

“Red, White, and Blue! RED, WHITE, and BLUE!”

That was OUR week. How was YOURS?
